If you’re travelling to Koh Lipe, then you’ll be pleased to know that Pak Bara is the go-to pier for getting there. You can hop on a speed boat all year round (unless there are any unforeseen circumstances) and enjoy a ride to your destination. So, pack your bags and get ready for an adventure! Embarking on a journey to or from Koh Lipe and Pak Bara is an exciting experience that takes approximately 1.5-2 hours. During this time, you’ll have the opportunity to take in the breathtaking scenery and immerse yourself in the local culture.
There are a few convenient ways on getting to Koh Lipe. During the high season, you can easily travel to Koh Lipe from Pak Bara or Langkawi, by both ferry and speedboat. They connect Koh Lipe with all the surrounding islands and coastal locations. The high season runs from early November to late April, making it the perfect time to visit. Taking a boat to Koh Lipe is an exciting experience that takes approximately 90 minutes if you opt for a direct boat ride. However, during the high season, some boats make stops at Tarutao National Marine Park or other islands along the way, which extends the journey time. You can also easily explore nearby destinations like Koh Lanta, Krabi, Koh Phi Phi, and Phuket. So, get ready to embark on an unforgettable adventure!
If you’re planning on travelling to Koh Lipe during the low season (May to October), the only way to get here directly is by taking a speed boat from Pak Bara. It’s important to keep this in mind when planning your travel itinerary so you can make the necessary arrangements and enjoy a hassle-free journey to this beautiful island paradise. One of the best ways to get here is by traveling through Satun to Pak Bara and taking a speed boat to Koh Lipe. This route offers stunning views and a thrilling adventure that you won’t want to miss.
From Bangkok
There are many flights each day from Bangkok to Hat Yai with Thai Airlines or Air Asia taking about 1 hour. The easiest and cheapest option from anywhere in the North is to fly from Bangkok to Hat Yai then a mini van or taxi to Pak Barra. You can book a flight here or train and bus tickets here. The nearest town to Koh Lipe with an airport as well as a train station is Hat Yai. Travelling to Koh Lipe by train from Bangkok to Hat Yai is also an option. The journey takes around 15 hours, and there are five trains daily from Bangkok’s Hualamphong station: 13:00, 14:45, 15:10, 15:35 and 22:50.
From Hat Yai
Travelling to Koh Lipe via Pak Bara, the journey by taxi takes about 90 minutes. When booking a flight make sure you leave enough time to catch a ferry or speed boat. If your flight or train arrives in Hat Yai before 10.00am, you will have time to make it for the last ferry in Pak Bara to Koh Lipe. From here just take one of the boats direct to Koh Lipe, the journey takes approx. 1.5-2 hours and is about 60km.
From Phuket
During the high season you can travel down by ferry or speed boat to Koh Lipe. The coastal road in this area has got some great scenery. You can travel by bus or taxi to Pak Bar, and catch a speed boat to Koh Lipe. Pak Bara is the main pier for reaching Koh Lipe, speedboats run all year unless otherwise noted.
From Langkawi
Travelling to Koh Lipe via this route is only possible during high season. Once you’ve made it to Langkawi you are only a short boat ride to Koh Lipe. This route can get very busy and you should book your tickets in advance and remember to confirm your return ticket too. The boat journey from Langkawi is approximately 30km to Koh Lipe. If you are wanting to travel from Langkawi during low season, you must first go to Satun or Hat Yai for a visa, then from there to Pak Bara as there is no immigration on Koh Lipe during this time of year.
Travelling to Koh Lipe From Other Destinations
If you are coming from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, you can fly direct to Langkawi or Hat Yai. The other options are to take a bus or train to Hat Yai and then taxi to Pak Bara.
As you can see there are plenty of ways for travelling to Koh Lipe. As soon as you show up on Koh Lipe island the speed boat or ferryboat will stop offshore beyond the coral reefs on Pattaya Beach. You will then leave the boat straight into a smaller long tail taxi boat, who will then bring you ashore. The boats will take you anywhere around the island for 50 THB per person – simply let them know the name of the resort you are staying at and they will take you to the closest beach.
