Getting To Koh Lipe

Luckily, speedboats are available all year round (unless there are any unforeseen circumstances). So, you can rest assured that you’ll be able to reach your destination with ease and convenience.

The journey to or from Koh Lipe & Pak Bara is a scenic one that takes approximately 1.5-2 hours. Covering a distance of about 60km, this journey promises to be an exciting one filled with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Getting to Koh Lipe via Pak Bara and Langkawi are the most popular options. However, during the high season, you’ll have even more choices available to you. You’ll want to keep in mind that the high season runs from early November to late April. Luckily, there are plenty of options for getting around the area. Speed boats and ferries are available to connect you with all the islands and areas up and down the coast, including popular destinations like Koh Lanta, Krabi, Koh Phi Phi, and Phuket. During the low season, from May to the end of October, the only direct boats for getting to Koh Lipe are from Pak Bara. Getting to Koh Lipe from Langkawi you can travel via Satun to Pak Bara and catch a speed boat to Koh Lipe. The journey between Pak Bara and Koh Lipe takes about 90 minutes direct, but during the season some boats stop at Tarutao or other islands along the way making for a longer journey.

There is no airport on Koh Lipe island so you will need to first fly in to either Bangkok, Langkawi, Hat Yai, Krabi or Phuket airport. Getting to Koh Lipe from any of these airports you then take take the rest of the journey by road or rail and then by boat.

Once you arrive on Koh Lipe island the speed boat or ferry will stop offshore outside of the coral reefs on Pattaya Beach. You will then get off the boat directly into one of the local long tail taxi boats, who will bring you ashore. The boats will take you anywhere around the island for 50 Baht per person, just let them know your resort name and they will take you to the nearest beach.

When arriving at Koh Lipe, you’ll need to go through immigration procedures as the island is located close to the Thailand-Malaysia border. Make sure to have your passport, any required visas, and necessary travel documents ready. Don’t forget to make sure you have the relevant visa and travel insurance before you travel to Thailand.
